Hello, I hope you are well.
This is just an update- I haven’t posted on here since October 2020!
The European Eel, by Steve Ely , Longbarrow Press.
This long-form poem follows the life cycle of the European Eel. Luxuriating in language (lots of scientific terms), intimate, awestruck, angry, rejoicing, elegiac, and thorough. There’s an interesting essay by Ely on the Longbarrow website which gives background to the subject and his approach to the project. I found the section ‘Nature Writing Fit for the Anthropocene?’ particularly interesting.
The Stone Age, by Jen Hadfield, Cape, 2021
The Resurrections, by John Challis. Bloodaxe, 2021.
The Poems of Norman MacCraig, Polygram, 2015.
Non poetry – Monte Cassino by Mathew Parker, headline 2004.
Empireland by Sathnam Sanghera, Penguin, 2021
