Hello. For various reasons, this is my first post of 2019. I took on a second job in adult education last September and that has kept me busy.
The poems that had pretty much stopped coming after my last book was published in 2017 began to arrive some time last year.
So far this year I have had new work accepted by several magazines including Strix and the brand new print magazine Finished Creatures. Poems are also forthcoming in the excellent The Butcher’s Dog, The Rialto and in the online journal The High Window.
Issue one of Finished Creatures is a particularly fine publication.
It has 82 pages and is a lovely item. Inside, I have discovered the work of some really excellent poets including Matt Howard. Matt’s first full collection ‘Gall’ was published by The Rialto last year and is available here . Highly recommended.
I’m looking forward to attending and reading a poem or two at the launch of Finished Creatures in London on Monday evening. The previous day I will be reading at Cheltenham Poetry Festival . The festival organiser, poet Anna Saunders has put together a fine and eclectic line up and you can browse the events here . The theme of the festival is ‘Truth’ and Anna has asked me to prepare some thoughts to share on the subject of truth in poetry. I’m getting these together today and choosing poems to fit the theme.
In other news, I’m still working on translations of Eugenio Montale poems, and these are scheduled for publication in the autumn.
